Mark Westneat gave a half-hour presentation to the strategic initiatives committee (a subcommittee of the board of trustees at the Field Museum).

* Feb 2nd
The Encyclopedia of Life was featured on the cover of this weeks issue of Science News and BioSynC Director Mark Westneat was quoted extensively in the article. View the article here.

* Feb 5th
We were happy to have a visit from Jamee Field, new member of the Board of Trustees (and daughter of Marshall Field) in order to see the progress of the new center facilities.

* Jan 2-6th
Mark Westneat, Audrey Aranowsky and Alta Buden attended SICB (Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology), in San Antonio,TX. We had a booth and took the opportunity to make contacts with many scientists interested in future synthesis meetings as well as spread the word about the EOL among the large gathering of specialists. We also enjoyed the warm weather, abundance of barbeque and visits to the Alamo.

* Jan 7th
Torsten Dikow, our very first post-doc officially began work.

BioSynC staff officially moved into the temporary office space. The new space is very exciting, complete with wonderful furniture donated by Bob Crawford and the Brook Furniture Foundation.

Sep 25th
The Field Museum to nominate three species as part of the first 15 to go into the EOL. Forty two species are initially nominated by museum staff and the voting begins.

Sep 7th
Seminar at the National Science Foundation “The Encyclopedia Of Life and the Biodiversity Synthesis Center”

Sep 4th
First employee, Alta Buden, begins work as a Biodiversity Specialist.

Sep 1st
First Applications are accepted for Postdoctoral Candidates.
